Obituary

Mary Louise (Clark) Taylor, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, known to all as “Mary Lou,” passed away peacefully on August 18, 2019 at the age of 80. She was surrounded by her devoted husband of 56 years, Robert (Bob) Taylor, many of her children and family members.

Born in Providence, raised in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of Joseph P. Clark and Mary L. McCarthy. She is predeceased by her sister Ann P. Horan and survived by her brother, Joseph F. Clark.

Mary Lou was the proud mother of six children including Richard Taylor (wife Fernanda), Deborah Lukas (husband Steven Orr), Mari Taylor (deceased), John Taylor (wife Karyn Wulwick), Karen Taylor, Susan Formaker (husband Jesse). Her eight grandchildren include Jacob Lukas, Gabriel Campos-Taylor, Claire Formaker, Elijah Taylor, Juliana Campos-Taylor, Christopher Formaker, Carlos Campos-Taylor, and Sylvie Taylor. She was great grandmother to Aedan Lukas and aunt to many nieces and nephews. The gifts she bestowed to all included her sense of adventure, born out of a love of travel, her sharp and inquisitive mind, her ready and warm laugh at herself and life, and her unwavering support for and dedication to her family.

Mary Lou graduated from Salve Regina University in 1960 with a B.A. degree in History-Education. She taught in Pawtucket for two years before moving to Berkeley, California where she met Bob. They were married in 1963 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Apponaug. Following a honeymoon on Nantucket Island, they lived in California where she taught at Lorenzo Manor Elementary School before retiring to raise a family.

In 1989 she returned to teaching first at Corpus Christi Catholic School in Piedmont, California, and later at St. Elizabeth Elementary School in Oakland, California. In addition to teaching the basics she enjoyed teaching the children knitting, directing musical productions and introducing children to the beach. Following her retirement in 2006, Mary Lou and Bob returned to spend the summer season in Bristol, RI.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary Lou may be made to Alzheimer’s Services of the East Bay, 2320 Channing Way, Berkeley, CA 94704 Attn: Accounting Dept. (URL: http://aseb.org/support-aseb/donate/).

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Parish, 330 Wood St., Bristol, RI on Tuesday, August 27 at 10AM. Arrangements by Family's Choice Cremation. www.familyschoicecremation.com
